About Coating Services

Coating services coat or plate the surfaces of manufactured components. Coating processes include ceramic, coil, dip, dry lubricant, phosphate, powder, rubber, thin film, titanium, and selective coating. Coating services also perform chemical finishing, galvanizing, hardfacing, painting, thermal spraying, and screen printing. Plating deposits a metal salt solution onto a metal or conductive surface. Electroplating requires the application of DC power. Electroless plating does not. Common plating materials include brass, cadmium, chrome, copper, gold, nickel, platinum, rhodium, silver, tin, tin-lead, titanium, and zinc. Some coating services process new components or original equipment manufacturer (OEM) parts. Others restore damaged surfaces or provide services at customer sites or in the field. Coating services are located across the United States and around the world. Many meet International Standards Organization (ISO) requirements or automotive, aerospace, military, or OEM specifications.

Coating services use a variety of equipment, techniques, and materials to coat part surfaces. Ceramic coatings exhibit excellent resistance to wear, heat, and aqueous corrosion. They also provide excellent electrical insulation. Coil coating is a continuous, high speed, roll-to-roll process for coating metal. In dip coating or immersion coating, parts are dipped or immersed into a bath or tanks filled with a liquid coating solution. Dry lubricants are used to coat surfaces such as machine parts, fittings, cams, springs, gears, cables, and elastomeric gaskets. Phosphate coatings are applied to steel, iron, castings, and steel-based substrates to protect metal from corrosion and to improve coating adhesion. Powder coating is a finishing technology in which dry paint particles are electrostatically charged and then applied to a grounded part. Thin film coating techniques include physical vapor deposition (PVD) and chemical vapor deposition (CVD). Titanium nitride (TiN) is an extremely hard, thin film coating applied mostly to precision metal parts. Galvanizing immerses clean, oxide-free iron or steel into molten zinc in order to apply a zinc coating that is metallurgically bonded to the iron or steel surface. Hardfacing welds materials with different properties to a substrate. Thermal spraying is a continuous coating process that melts the consumable material into droplets and impinges these droplets on the substrate.

Products & Services Related to Coating Services

Anodizing Services
Anodizing is a process for finishing aluminum alloys that employs electrolytic oxidation of the aluminum surface to produce a protective oxide coating.
Architectural Coating, Finishing and Painting Services
Architectural coating, architectural finishing and architectural painting services coat, finish and paint interior and exterior surfaces and components in buildings and plants.
Lining and Wear Protection Services
Lining and wear protection services suppliers provide installation or application of wear protective liners, tile liners, spray on lining systems and/or high build coatings to protect an underlying surface from wear or erosion.
Parts Washing Services
Parts washing services remove grease, oil, dirt, soot and other contaminants from surfaces. They perform processes such as blasting, thermal cleaning, degreasing, oxygen cleaning, pickling, spray washing, immersion washing, mass finishing, stripping, and ultrasonic cleaning.
Sandblasting and Shot Peening Services
Sandblasting and shot peening services bombard media against a surface to meet surface condition requirements. Sandblasting uses abrasive grain to roughen, smooth, shape or clean surfaces. Shot peening uses rounded media to strengthen or dimple a surface.
Sealing and Impregnation Services
Sealing and impregnation services use uses vacuum, pressure, vacuum and pressure (VPI), and/or wicking-action techniques to drive resins or coating materials into parts and seal pores.
Web Coating Services
Web coating services apply a layer of resin or other liquid coating to the surface of a continuous sheet of material.
